Redlib: Say Goodbye to Reddit Ads and Tracking

What is Redlib?

In simple terms, Redlib is a private Reddit frontend focused on privacy, speed, and simplicity. Much like using a third-party YouTube client, it allows you to browse Reddit content normally while filtering out all the annoying ads and trackers.

User Experience

Note: This application requires its own microservice to have scientific internet access; just having it on your personal computer is not enough. After installing the app, open the homepage.

Usage is super simple: Enter the subreddit you want to view in the search box, for example r/programming Start browsing happily.

Click directly on content that interests you to go to the details page.

If you frequently click on Reddit links and are too lazy to manually change the website each time, then install a redirect extension:

Redlib supports many customization options, such as:

Theme Selection:

  • Dark mode, Light mode, Black mode
  • Some featured themes like Dracula, Nord, etc.

Layout Adjustment:

  • Card style (default)
  • Compact style
  • Condensed style

Content Filtering:

  • Enable SFW mode to filter all NSFW content
  • Hide distracting elements like scores, awards, etc.

Although you cannot directly log into your Reddit account (which would defeat the purpose of privacy protection), you can:

Click the + to add a list of followed subreddits. image.png

After following, you can see them in the Feeds section.

Because you are not logged into an account, some features are unavailable:

  • Cannot post or comment
  • Cannot upvote or downvote
  • Cannot view private messages

But frankly, if you're just browsing content, these limitations have little impact.

Summary

Redlib is a very practical tool, especially suitable for these scenarios:

  • You primarily read Reddit content and don't post often
  • You can't stand the ads and loading speed of the official Reddit
  • You care about privacy and don't want to be tracked
  • You prefer a clean, simple interface
