Stringer: The Minimalist RSS Aggregation Power Tool

What is Stringer?

Stringer is an open-source RSS reader built with Ruby, with the tagline "anti-social RSS reader."

The name is quite interesting—it essentially means it focuses purely on reading, without all the flashy social sharing features.

Stringer shares many similarities with Miniflux; both are super simple implementations of feed readers. It's written in Ruby, and compared to feedbin (also written in Ruby), its architecture is simpler and its interface more modern.

Find the RSS link of the website you want to subscribe to. It usually looks like one of these:

In Stringer, click "Add Feed" and paste the link.

Here are some quality RSS feeds I'm using:

Technology

  • Hacker News: https://news.ycombinator.com/rss
  • GitHub Trending: https://github.com/trending.atom
  • Product Hunt: https://www.producthunt.com/feed

Blogs

  • Ruan YiFeng's Network Log: https://feeds.feedburner.com/ruanyifeng
  • SSPAI: https://sspai.com/feed

Summary

Stringer is the kind of tool that "does one thing well." It won't burden you with a bunch of features you don't need, nor will it leave you lost in complicated settings.

If you:

  • Want a clean and simple RSS reader
  • Value data privacy and control

Then Stringer is for you.
