Habitica: Turn Your Life into an RPG Game
What is Habitica?
Have you ever wished that life could be as fun as playing a game? Imagine brushing your teeth and washing your face earning you experience points, completing work tasks leveling you up, and sticking to a fitness routine unlocking new gear... Doesn't that sound amazing?
Habitica is a "gamified" task management application. You create a pixelated character, and then make this character level up, acquire equipment, and unlock new features by completing real-life tasks.

Beginner's Guide: Starting Your Gaming Life from Scratch
Step 1: Registration and Character Creation
- Install the app from the Lazy Cat Store.
- You need to register an account first and choose your character's appearance.
4. Give your pixel character an awesome name.

After that, you can see the main page features:

Step 2: Understanding the Three Task Types
Habits (Habits)
These are the habits you want to cultivate or break, such as:
- ✅ Drink 8 glasses of water daily (+1 XP)

- ✅ Exercise for 30 minutes (+2 XP)
- ❌ Scrolling on phone for over 2 hours (-1 HP)
Tip: Don't set too many habits at the beginning; 3-5 is enough. Choose habits you genuinely want to change.
Daily Tasks (Dailies)
These are tasks you must complete every day, such as:
- Brushing teeth and washing face
- Making the bed
- Reviewing English vocabulary
- Writing a work daily report

Important Reminder: If you consistently fail to complete your Daily tasks, your character will lose health and might even die! So initially, only set tasks that you are 99% sure you can complete every day.
To-Do Items (To-Dos)
These are one-time tasks with deadlines, such as:
- Finish the project report
- Schedule a doctor's appointment
- Buy a birthday gift
- Repair the broken appliance

Step 3: Setting Appropriate Task Difficulty
Tasks in Habitica have four difficulty levels:
- Trivial: Very simple things
- Easy: Effortless tasks like brushing teeth, drinking water
- Medium: Tasks requiring some effort, like exercise, studying
- Hard: Highly challenging tasks like completing major projects, overcoming bad habits
Beginner Suggestion: For the first two weeks, primarily set Easy and Medium difficulty tasks to get accustomed to the system.
Pro Tip: Smart Use of the Reward System
In the settings, you can create custom rewards, for example:
- 10 Gold = Watch one episode of a TV show
- 20 Gold = Buy a bubble tea
- 50 Gold = Buy a book you want
This way, you can use the gold earned in the game to "purchase" small rewards in real life.
Conclusion
Habitica is more than just an app; it's a lifestyle change.
Life itself is a game. Since we have to play it, why not make it more enjoyable?
