Assetgrid: A Simple Personal Finance Bookkeeping Tool
What is Assetgrid?
Simply put, Assetgrid helps you manage your money. But what sets it apart from other budgeting apps is:
- Doesn't Force a Budgeting Mindset - Many apps immediately ask you to set a budget, but in reality, most people have no idea how to create one. Assetgrid lets you import your bills first, understand your spending habits, and then decide if you want to create a budget.
- Your Data Stays with You - It's self-hosted, meaning your financial data doesn't end up on someone else's servers.
- Categorize Your Way - Supports automated categorization, so you don't have to manually tag every single transaction.

How to Use
After installing the app, first register an account.

After logging in, you'll enter the main page.

First, create a new account.

Step 1: Import Data
Most banks support exporting statements in CSV format. Assetgrid's import tool is powerful, but some banks use non-standard CSV formats which might require manual adjustment. Here, we are importing a China Construction Bank statement.

Click the "Continue" button at the bottom.

Step 2: Categorize and Organize
This is the most crucial step. Assetgrid supports automation rules. For example:
Select the sequence number for the first row.

Select the transaction date for the time field.

The date format looks like this:
Therefore, you need to change the format here to: yyMMdd (without the - in the middle).

You need to manually map the fields for the other columns. Click "Import" to see the data.

You can save your configuration as a template.

You can view it in the account.

Summary
It's a great choice for those who don't want to be locked into commercial software but still want flexible financial management.
Most importantly, it gives you true ownership of your financial data. You can analyze it however you want, without worrying about the service shutting down and losing your data.
