LibreY
LibreY is a "frameless, Javascript" privacy-friendly meta search engine. It aggregates the results of multiple search sources, minimizes the generation and storage of identifiable data in front-end and back-end designs, and does not record user search logs; supports instance fallback, Docker deployment and API access, and is suitable for self-hosting and low-resource environment use.
It is recommended to use kittens or Piggy Peggy with it. - Privacy design: No user data is saved and no logs (unless the host enables NGINX logging by itself); privacy front-end redirection and "instance rollback" are supported. - Multi-source aggregation: text results from Google, DuckDuckGo, Brave, Ecosia, Yandex, Mojeek; images from Qwant; seeds/magnetism from Ahmia and common sites. - Zero JS and lightweight front-end: zero-dependency on the framework, no JavaScript is used on the front-end, fast loading, and suitable for old devices and restricted environments. - API and search integration: Provides an API; comes with OpenSearch configuration examples for easy addition as a search engine in the browser. - Self-hosting and deployment: Dockerfile and docker‑compose are officially provided; the document contains manual construction and Tor agent deployment instructions, making it easy to run in multi-network (including Tor/I2P) environments. - Configurable and extensible: Extend/adjust the crawler and caching strategy (supporting disabling caching) through the config.php.example and engines directory to adapt to different usage scenarios. - Themes and localization: Built-in Catppuccin themes;locale directory supports multiple languages (Bengali, etc.), and the interface can be localized on demand. - Security and maintenance: Provide SECURITY.md security policies;auto_updater.sh supports automatic updates; add security headers such as Permissions‑Policy by default. - Communities and Instances: Maintain instances.php/instances.json instance list; provide Matrix chat rooms; encourage multi-community instance triage to improve usability. - Open source license: Following AGPL‑3.0, suitable for research, secondary development and community contribution.
